  • Three-Alarm Fire Displaces Two Families in Elizabeth
    Updated On: Oct 11, 2018

    November 11, 2014

RLSMedia.com - A three-alarm fire consumed the rear of a three-family home in Elizabeth overnight.

Elizabeth Deputy Chief Carl Heitmeyer said that crews quickly responded to the 600 block of Fulton Street shortly after 5:30 p.m. for a report of heavy fire at a home.

The fire which likely started in the rear of the home, spread through the three stories pretty rapidly, Heitmeyer added.

Two families made it out of the home prior to arrival of firefighters. The third apartment had no occupants since it was presently vacant.

Fire departments from Linden, Union, and Kenilworth also responded, Heitmeyer said.

The blaze was place under control at 6:45 p.m. The cause of the fire remains under investigation but fire appears to have been accidental.

The Red Cross was notified to help the displaced residents find temporary shelter should they need it, said Heitmeyer.

No injuries were reported, he added.

"We were able to keep it from spreading to the neighboring homes or the tire shop directly behind the damaged home. Great job to the crew," said Heitmeyer.
