February 1, 2015

RLSMedia.com - Elizabeth firefighters rescued a man and a woman after a fire broke out on the second floor of a two-and-a-half story home in Elizabeth, Fire Chief Tom McNamara said.

Firefighters responded to the 1100 block of Fairmount Avenue shortly before 6 p.m. for a report of heavy flames coming from the home.

Upon arrival, crews found heavy fire on the second floor which quickly spread to the home’s attic.  Firefighters performing initial search found a male and female inside the home.

Both victims were transported to Trinitas Hospital in unknown condition, McNamara said.

The three-alarm fire caused extensive damage to the multi-family home but was contained only causing minor damage smoke and water damage to the homes on either side.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, McNamara added.

The chief said no other injuries were reported at this time.

According to a neighbor, the home is occupied by a male and two females. One of which was not at home at the time of the fire.

This story will be updated as we received additional details.
