RLSMedia.com - Authorities are investigating a fatal garage fire that killed a 66-year-old man early this morning on Florida Street.
Deputy Chief Lathey Wirkus said that calls reporting a fire on the 200 block of Florida Street came in at approximately 5:01 am.
According to Wirkus, when firefighters arrived on the scene there was heavy fire coming out of the garage which is located directly behind the house. A minor exposure to the home was quickly isolated to the garage, causing a smoke condition to the main building.
According to officials approximately 10 occupants safely evacuated the home.
A search of the garage resulted in the discovery of a fatality.
No identity or details surrounding the victim has been released at this time. Elizabeth police are currently investigating this incident.
No other injuries were reported.
The fire was extinguished in just under thirty minutes, added the Chief.
