NJ.com - TRENTON - Gov. Chris Christie on June 26 signed into law a $33.8 billion budget for the fiscal year that began July 1.

But first, he issued a series of line-item vetoes, scratching $1.6 billion in spending from the budget Assembly and Senate Democrats passed less than 24 hours earlier.

The most prominent vetoes included tax hikes on corporate profits and income over $1 million, additional funding for local schools and universities, and money for family planning clinics. 

He slashed $3.1 billion for government worker pensions — the centerpiece of the Democrats' plan — back to the $1.3 billion he'd included in his initial budget proposal.
