TAPinto.net - ELIZABETH, NJ – At approximately in 1:45 p.m. today, a fire was reported in the shrubs outside the Home Deport on West Grand Street.
Engine 8 from the West Grand Firehouse first responded and quickly upgraded the fire due to its proximity to the building. Scorn marks can be seen on the outside walls of the store. Engine 7, Rescue 1, and Ladder 3 from Fire Headquarters and Engine 3 and Ladder 1 from the Broad Street Firehouse also responded.
“There is a high alert for brush fires today due to the low humidity,” reported Battalion Chief Walter Clarke. “We already had a few.”
According to Battalion Chief Clarke, the cause was accidental and did not travel to the store’s interior. The store was not evacuated, but traffic outside was re-routed.
